What’s the difference between AR, VR, and MR?

AR, VR, and MR technologies allow us to see the magic of science and technology, and at the same time make the real and sensible real world more closely connected with the untouchable virtual world. The emergence of the three technologies has left many people confused and even confused them. Let’s take a look at what these three technologies are.

Virtual Reality / Augmented Reality / Mixed Reality

AR

Augmented Reality ( AR ), or augmented reality technology. This technology is to use computer technology to superimpose virtual information into the real world, display it through mobile phones, tablet computers and other devices, and be perceived by people, so as to realize the integration of reality and virtuality and enrich the real world. In short, it is to “live” the content of the plane itself, give more information to the real object, enhance the three-dimensional sense, strengthen the visual effect and the sense of interactive experience.
The common application of AR technology is to use mobile phone cameras to scan real-world objects, and display corresponding pictures, audio and video, 3D models, etc. on the mobile phone through image recognition technology. Such as the “AR red envelope” function of some software. The deeper application of AR technology is still being explored.

VR

Virtual Reality ( VR ), that is, virtual reality technology, also known as spiritual technology, which has the characteristics of immersion, interaction and conception. VR technology integrates computer graphics, simulation technology, multimedia technology, artificial intelligence technology, computer network technology, parallel processing technology, multi-sensor technology and other technologies to simulate the functions of human sense organs such as vision, hearing, and touch. It seems to be immersive, immersed in a computer-generated virtual world, and can communicate in real time through language, gestures, etc., to enhance the sense of entry and immersion. Through VR technology, people can feel the reality of the real world while breaking through the constraints of time and space, and feel the wonderful experience of entering the virtual world.
VR technology is widely used, such as astronauts using VR simulation technology for training; architects make drawings into three-dimensional virtual buildings, which are convenient for experience and modification; real estate agents allow customers to visit the houses immersively; virtual reality produced by the entertainment industry Stage scenes and so on.

MR

Mixed Reality ( MR ), that is, mixed reality technology, which is a further development of virtual reality technology. It is by introducing real scene information into the virtual environment, building a bridge between the virtual world, the real world, and the user, thereby enhancing the realism of the user experience. The key point of MR technology is to interact with the real world and obtain information in time. Therefore, its realization needs to be in an environment that can interact with all things in the real world. If the environment is all virtual, then it is VR; if the displayed virtual information is simply superimposed with virtual things, then it is AR. The difference between MR and AR, in simple terms: AR only superimposes the virtual environment without paying attention to reality, but MR can let you see reality that you can’t see with the naked eye through a camera.
The interactive feedback between virtual and reality of MR technology can enable people to communicate when they are far away, which is extremely manipulable.
